On the Possibility and Engineering of Machine Consciousness
In human history, mankind is, for the first time, ready and possible to build up an algorithmic driven society where many AI (Artificial Intelligence) entities “live”, learn, and interact with each other and most crucially with human beings. In this talk, I shall reflect on the recent progress of narrow AI and machine learning research, and discuss my personal view on the road map towards general AI. While reviewing our recent research on multiagent learning, I will also give a quick reference to the recent scientific studies of human consciousness and point out the pros and cons of the current machine learning methods for intelligent decision making. At the end of the talk, the potential links between the two scientific disciplines are suggested, and some of our early research attempts are presented.
