Treading on Thin Ice
iver plumes are the biologically productive edges of our oceans. Increased river discharges, due to predicted climate change, will change freshwater transport, residual currents, silt, light and biology in these important coastal systems. In her inaugural lecture on Wednesday 26th, ‘Treading on Thin Ice’, Prof. Julie Pietrzak will discuss (new) threats facing coastal systems, from the changes in river discharge to flooding due to tsunamis and hurricanes, and the way her research could help face them. 'We must learn from past disasters so that we reduce the loss of life in future events.'
